Other Information:

Just a reminder that your child will be bringing home a Ziploc bag with his/her name on it once or twice a week.   We will be adding books each week.  Your child should read their new book to at least 1 adult.  Once they have read it, please sign the back of the book.  Your child should be able to read this story independently with minimal help.  We have already read it in class.  When they are reading I ask that you ensure they are using their “reading ready hands.”  This means that typically their left hand is hold down the spine of the book and their right pointer finger (the "Reading Finger") is pointing to each word.  There are dots under each word to help guide their pointer finger for now.  Their finger should be hopping to each word at first.  This is to help with their voice print recognition.  I understand that this story maybe easy for some of the kids but please know we are working on building our stamina, proper reading habits, and fluency.  It is very important that your child consistently uses “reading ready hands.”  This is something even you can model when you are reading a story to them at home.   Please remind your child to bring back their book bags with all books in it the next day.  If your child brings back their bag with their new book signed, they get a special sticker.  This is getting them in the practice for when we start sending home real books, which will then have a reading log you will sign.  Paper books will be coming home frequently so be sure to check your child’s backpack daily.
